the first day

I had big plans
to sleep in today.
But I woke up
at 5:07
with my head filled with
thoughts,
and plans,
and ideas.

At about 6:15,
this saying popped
into my head.
I remember it
from a long time ago...
was it a song,
or maybe a commercial?

Today is the first day
of the rest of your life.

I like it.
It makes me think
of looking forward,
not back.

It lets me start fresh.
It lets me forgive myself
for falling short.
It allows me to be
my best self.
Today.

Here's to new beginnings!
