Naomi Adelaide.
.
.
I never knew her,
but there are quite a few things
I know about her.
She loved to wear
beautiful hats....
.
.
she had eight children,
between the years of
1888 and 1902....
.
.
And she was a very hard worker.
She had to be.
She carried water from the creek,
made curtains,
sewed rags for rugs,
and made all the clothes
for her large family.
While her husband
served an LDS mission,
she milked the cows,
took the milk in a buggy to the dairy,
and cut wood for fires.
With all this hard work,
was there any time
for pleasure?
Naomi had to make time.
The story goes that
her husband believed that
reading was a waste of time.
But Naomi loved to read.
So when she was churning butter,
she would lay the book in her lap
and read away as she churned.
If Henry came near,
she would just flip her apron
over the book,
and keep right on churning!
We all have to do things
to make chores more fun,
don't you think?
When my kids were small,
and it was chore time,
we played "cleaning music"!
Cleaning was fun
with fast-paced music
keeping us moving.
This song was our favorite!
As they got older,
we had to graduate to something
a little different,
and I introduced them to
the good stuff from the '70's, like this:
Even now with my kids mostly grown,
I like to turn on some good
cleaning music
and get to work!
What do you do
to make the chores fun?
Leave me a comment--
I'd love to hear about it!
