In our family,
we seem to have developed
an accidental Christmas tradition.
For the last several years
at Christmastime,
we do one of two things.
One - home repairs.
Two - weddings.
One year we spent December
finishing our basement,
and finally got carpet
on December 23
after staying up all night
working on it the night before.
Another year,
December was spent
ripping out moldy flooring
and laying tile.
We've even had a flood
from a broken water heater
at holiday time.
Just two years ago,
J and R got married on
January 2nd.
And this year,
F and K are getting married
on December 29.
As plans and preparations
made Christmas
an afterthought once again,
I kept thinking....
at least we don't have
home repairs.
Then we gave F and K
our bedroom furniture, and
decided to get ourselves
new dressers.
Things quickly
spiraled downhill from there.
We can't get new dressers
without first replacing the
16-year-old rose-pink carpet.
And we can't replace that carpet
without first ripping off
the wallpaper and
painting the
past-their-prime rose-pink walls.
So here I am....
on my way to the paint store
on December 16.
Just think of it this way.
