Before traveling to
many foreign countries --
especially those in
Central America --
it's critical to get protected
against certain diseases.
So before we went
to Central America,
there were several immunizations
we had to get.
We also had to
take Chloroquine
to prevent
malaria.
Malaria
is caused
by disease-carrying
mosquitoes.
Chloroquine
tastes like metal --
and it causes
stomach disturbances...
We need to start taking it again
in a few weeks to
prepare for another humanitarian expedition.

Whenever I think of malaria,
I think of my great-grandfather.
In 1905, he was called to serve
an LDS mission to Indiana,
leaving his wife behind in Idaho,
along with seven children,
and one on the way.
In October of 1906,
while he was in Indiana,
he died
of malaria.
I'm pretty grateful I can take
Chloroquine.
